Honest Tips for Decluttering Clothes

If you’re tired of your packed closet and know you just have too much, it may be time to sort through it. Being honest with yourself for a task like home organizing is critical. If you want to downsize, declutter and have less stuff overwhelming you, changes must be made. A cluttered home will stay cluttered without sorting and letting go of some stuff. This stands true for closet downsizing.

When you need help downsizing your clothes and closet, try remembering these tips:

  1. Clothes don’t have feelings

  2. People won’t notice if you only have five tshirts

  3. It’s about who you are now

  4. No lucky charms

  5. Think about what makes sense

  6. The memory will stay

  7. Giving feels awesome

  8. They will understand

I especially like 3. It’s who you are now and 6. The memory will stay. These are two issues I come across with clients a lot. A great portion of clients have lost weight or have fluctuated in their weight. Holding on to what fits you now will help you let go of things you ‘might’ fit into one day.

Memories are something that apply to all categories, not only clothing. If you were to keep a tshirt from every vacation you ever went on, it’s expected your closet or drawers will be packed full. Try to remember that just because you don’t have a physical item doesn’t mean you won’t remember the memory attached!

Decluttering is hard for most people. Try to take it slow and downsize slowly. Patience in home downsizing projects will help you go a long way in the home organizing process!
